Elastic deformations and stresses in structural elements causes by axial force, bending moment, shear force, and torsion; stress-strain relationships; principal stresses and Mohr’s circle; and elementary design concepts. Emphasis is placed on the importance of satisfying equilibrium, compatibility of deformation, and material behavior requirements.
