I am a PhD student and Research Assistant at the Civil Engineering Department, Southern Illinois University. My research and working area includes different geotechnical aspects such as computational geotechnics, slope stability, geotechnical seismic design, wellbore stability and drilling, coal mine characterization, mining design, erosion of soil due to overtopping in levees. Also I have cooperated with Sequoia Engineering and Environmental Inc. in St. Louis as staff engineer in several geotechnical projects in states of Missouri and Illinois.
My main research project currently is focused on seismic investigation of retaining walls which I have been awarded a grant from Itasca Consulting Group, Inc. My secondary research is focused on slurry backfill of abandoned mines which is sponsored by Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
As a geotechnical engineer I have more than 5 years working experience in several geotechnical projects especially in designing and numerical modeling of retaining walls, mechanical stabilized earth, soil nailing and anchored walls, deep and shallow foundations, earthdams, tunneling, etc. My favorite geotechnical programs are FLAC, FLAC3D, PLAXIS and GeoStudio package and I have published a guidance book for computational geotechnics based on FLAC in Persian. In parallel with computational geotechnics, I have also experiences in experimental geotechnics including soil laboratory tests and preparing geotechnical reports.
